16 items including up to 2 overnight loan items, 16 weekly loans, 16 28-day loans, 6 bibliotherapy loans and 6 items of audiovisual equipment. Reference books, dissertations and journals cannot be borrowed
Abertay staff and research students 20 items including up to 2 overnight loans, up to 6 bibliotherapy loans, up to 6 audiovisual equipment items and up to 6 extended loans (academic staff only) Reference books, dissertations and journals cannot be borrowed
Associate students 12 items which may be 28-day or weekly loans Overnight loans, DVDs, reference books, journals, dissertations, bibliotherapy collection and audiovisual equipment cannot be borrowed. With the exception of AV equipment, these items can be used in the Library.

How do I borrow books?

Once you have selected your books bring them to Level 1. You can use the self-issue machines in the Library foyer to borrow most items (AV equipment cannot be loaned on self-service). You must have your ID to borrow library materials. If you are unable to use the self-issue machines or you are borrowing AV equipment you should take items to the Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ) where staff will issue them to you.

How long are the loan periods?

Books are issued for either 28 days, 7 days or on overnight loan (an overnight loan is due back the following working day). Books on weekly loan or overnight loan are clearly labelled. All other books are 4-week loan. Other materials may have different loan periods and be restricted to either staff or student borrowing only:

 *28 day loans may be recalled and the return date brought forward. The minimum loan for a recalled item will be 7 days.

** Overnight loans are bookable in advance. If an overnight loan has a booking before the library close time the following day, the borrowing period will be shortened. Ensure you check your receipt.

Return dates

A receipt giving the details of the date and time (if applicable) that a loan is due back will be issued when the item is borrowed. Please keep your receipt. You can also check when your items are due back by checking the My Account tab in LibrarySearch. If an item is recalled an email is sent informing you of the revised return date.
